Flashback is not only a documentary film about the musical phenomenon in the UK, but it’s also an intimate dialogue of the lives and careers and struggles of many of the artists, writers and producers in the black music community. Their music echoed all over the world and many people don’t even know these rhythms came from Britain.

The project has been co-produced with Leee John of 1980s band Imagination. The documentary will be informative as well as entertaining and uplifting. The viewer will be taken on a musical, social and political journey.

From the early 20th century up until the present day, Flashback tells the story of black music in the UK. Flashback features artists and music from a variety of decades and genres.

Five years of work, with more than 100 artists and industry professionals interviewed! Along side these exclusive interviews we have undertaken an extensive search to locate rare audio and visual archives related to the project.

This project includes:

Eddy Grant, Billy Ocean, Kenny Lynch, Clem Curtis (The Foundations), Courtney Pine, Pauline Black (The Seleter), Brinsley Forde (Aswad), Ruby Turner, David Grant (Linx), Jazzie B (Soul 2 Soul), Junior Giscombe, Janet Kay, Jaki Graham, Beverley Knight, Neville Staple (The Specials), Norman Jay, Trevor Nelson, Danny John-Jules, Carl Douglas, Ali Campbell (UB40) and many more!

Through Flashback we relive the memories that each era produced and learn about the stories that went on behind the scenes, the musical and historical references, the anecdotes, the challenges faced in UK society by the performers, and the realities of being a black performer in the music industry.
